Income and employment supports for adults, 18 years and over, with a physical disability or mental condition that is continuous or recurrent and is expected to last one year or more.

Community Start Up

The maximum benefit is $799 for an individual or $1500 for an individual with one or more dependents. In order to qualify, you must be moving because it is “harmful to your health or well-being to stay where you are” or “you are being discharged from an institution that provides for your basic needs and shelter” (www.cfcs.gov.on.ca). You must currently be receiving either Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program benefits and you must not have received any Community Start Up benefits within the last 24 months. To apply, contact your local Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program office.

Discretionary Benefits

Special fund to pay for necessary medical goods and related items (e.g., eyeglasses, emergency dental, dentures, prosthetics, funerals). Discretionary Benefits is available to social assistance recipients including Ontario Works clients and Ontario Disability Support Program clients. Discretionary Benefits may also be available to low income applicants, or applicants in receipt of Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security or Guaranteed Annual Income Supplement. In some cases a "financial needs test" will be required to determine eligibility.

Funds to help out with shelter, food, furniture, telephone, transportation, school/job search activities, clothing/personal care items and other emergency needs to recipients of Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support program who reside in London and have a dependent child or children under the age of 18 years.
